Thank You

This weekend it dawned on me that we have been open for three months now, and I would like to stop and say Thanks to everyone who has come into the store. I have met some wonderful people and made some wonderful friends and I am finally feeling like I am (almost) 100% in control.

Staci's first class last night was wonderful (and full!) and I'm sure there will be MANY MANY more classes on the calendar as soon as we both get Christmas out of the way.

It's been very hard to get into the Christmas spirit this year. Even though I had all of these wonderful Christmas decorating ideas for the store, I just never got into the mood. We had stressed out college kids to deal with and wedding plans to deal with (OH MY GOD I have to find a Mother of the Groom dress!!) and a wonderful house (that we HATE to sell) that is not selling and we don't understand why. We love that house and the very first thing I thought of when I walked into the empty living room was how wonderful a Christmas tree would look - why can't anyone else see that? Why can't we just load it up on a truck and move it to Austin so I can have my own freaking bathroom back? And while I'm wishing, can we bring some squirrels with us because our cats are bored.

Speaking of cats, we will be going home ..ooops....to Baytown... for Christmas and we will be bringing back our third cat, Noel. That will probably upset our happy little house for a while but he's bored silly there all by himself and the newlyweds-to-be have decided they do not want to start out their married life with a step-cat. The realtor thinks this may help us sell the house so we're caving in and adding him to the mix. If anyone out there is looking for a very loving lap cat who has been neutered and declawed and only wants to be held, rubbed and scratched 23 hours a day - let me know. He was a very spoiled kitten and would really be happier in a home where there are people.

And...speaking of spoiled.....college girl has won the battle and will be moving into her apartment on December 31st. The stupid apartments have a $500 cat deposit so it sounds like Rudy will be staying with us. My goal was to get Rudy out of the house so I could get a puppy for the store - now, not only am I not getting Rudy out of the house, we are ADDING Noel to the house and the puppy is getting to be less and less of a reality.
Every good knitting store has a dog........we'll get there.

The store will be closed next Monday and Tuesday ~ after Christmas we will be having a big sale so I can go to TNNA in January and find some new cool stuff!

Come and meet Staci at the store!

We will be having a little party for everyone to meet Staci at the store on Sunday, December 16th. We will be opening more wine and maybe we will actually have some "Christmassy" weather...who knows!

Staci's first two-part Beginner class has been put up on the calendar for Tuesday, December 18th and Thursday, December 20th from 7 to 8 pm. The cost for the class will be $30 plus materials. There is a minimum AND a maximum for the class, so be sure and come in and sign up quickly!!

Now! Open Late on Thursdays!

We will be staying open until 9 pm on Thursday nights until Christmas for those of you who need to get some things finished or want to do some late shopping. Those Christmas wish lists are already working - I have met two family members so far - what fun! Don't forget to tell people you have something on file. I am hoping our reloadable Gift Certificates will be here in the next week or so but all I can do is wait. Until then, I can do paper gift certificates and our computer just keeps track of the balance for you.

There will be a crocheted snowflake class twice today (12-2) and (7-9) and I am seriously hoping to get some spinning done today. I think I am going to borrow Stephanie's rule and set aside a day for spinning each week and since Thursdays are going to be extra long it might actually happen! We'll see.

Crazy Busy!!

I have spent the last two days updating all of the names and email addresses of the bazillion people who have come in asking "Do you teach knitting classes?" - that would be eleven pages of names!! I have also been trying to write a newsletter on a brand new computer with Office 2007 on it that evidently saves documents in some foreign language unreadable by most computers. (Unfortunately it's the computer that runs the cash register so I can't really take a hammer to it like I have SOOO been tempted to in the last 24 hours.) I even tried saving it as a .pdf document and figured that would fix the problem - it did, but led to a whole new list of problems. I gave up tonight and came home, sat down to Friday Night Lights with the good old laptop and re-wrote the whole damn thing as a google document. Saved. Published to a website. Awaiting technical support approval - otherwise known as the two college aged people who live here - once I get their approval, it will be mailed out to the people who have expressed an interest in classes and the list of customers.

What's that? Want to try looking at it?

Okay. Try it.

I sure hope it works correctly. (Let me know - yes or no.)
I'm also trying to get used to a new set of contacts that are about 20 times stronger than the last pair I was wearing - which were ONLY six years old. This also means that I can no longer see anything up close and have graduated to old lady reading glasses for almost everything closer than about 3 feet. That also includes knitting. Yuck.

We have new yarn (Aslan Trends) and new needles (Addi-Turbos!)
and some beautiful hand-spun yarn from New Mexico.
Come and check it all out.
