FINALLY!!

3011sold.JPG
We have a signed contract on the house in Baytown and will close on February 8th. Looks like the soon-to-be newlyweds won't have a humongo starter-house after all and will find out that Love really means having to share a bathroom. HA-HA.

Gasp! Crocs in Malibu???

in the water.JPG
This is Mr. Wonderful and I walking in the water on the beach in Malibu last Saturday - Something we reminded ourselves about this morning while we were watching the temperature drop on the thermostat in my car (everytime it registers a new low, a little bell rings) - today we hit a new low of 34 - that 74 degrees on Saturday that seemed kind of chilly sounds pretty nice right now.

I also bought a regular pair of shoes last night for the wedding because I could find no one who would agree that my dark brown Crocs would look just fine with a brown velvet dress. Fooey. I'm pretty sure my feet will be in shock.
Dress for the wedding: check (dark brown velvet)
Shoes for the wedding: check (dark brown suede)
Wrap for the dress: check check - I picked two - one will go back, probably the one that was once alive......
Purse to match the dress: check - small brown Coach picked out by Mr. Wonderful which led the saleswoman to declare "He's so cute!"
The bride and groom got the marriage license yesterday and the three-year old survived the tuxedo fitting this morning. Father of the groom is scheduled for that this afternoon at 5 - he will most likely whine more than Fletcher did.

The clock is ticking down and I think we may be almost ready.....

We're Back!

And we’re back from the land of Brittany Spears. And Yarn. And famous knitting people.
First of all, we have to thank Staci for running the show while we were gone. I knew the store was in good hands (ooh, yuck, I can’t believe I’m going to use that phrase here.) and was not worried – not even a teeny bit. THANKS STACI!!!!
We saw so many cool things that it is all kind of jumbled up in my head – I’m going to need a few days to decompress and I’m sure it will all come back up to the surface of my brain. For now, we’re going to take a short picture tour. And I do mean short – I got to CA with about “half a battery” of power showing on my camera and since I was really out there looking for some man I didn’t want to use up the battery!!! God help us all if I had actually come across him and tried to take a picture of the two most wonderful men in the world and the camera had been dead…..
Thursday night we had dinner at Bubba Gump’s and I got to see the braces Forrest wore on his legs when he was a little boy, Jenny’s wedding dress, Captain Dan’s Hawaiian shirt and best of all, the shorts and t-shirt Tom was wearing as he was running across the United States. No pictures – still waiting for the real thing……
Friday morning, as a new store owner I got to go into the convention center and hour and a half before everyone else. I thought this would be really cool but there was no one else in there – no sales reps or anyone else for that matter. It was almost like I had made it up or no one else read that page of the brochure. But I kept wondering around and people finally started showing up.
Famous People, like this God and Goddess to all knitters everywhere:
jess and casey.JPG
Casey and Jessica of RAVELRY!!
They have accepted our invitation to the store and Casey would REALLY like for us to work on something with them and Franklin together on the same weekend. Hear that Franklin? That’s a special request from the heaven that is Ravelry!!
More yarn. yarn. yarn. yarn. needles. more famous knitters. More yarn. MORE YARN. Dinner. Sleep.
The Next Day: On the hunt for Tom.

This is the beach Tom and Rita walk on.
malibu sign.JPG
This is a sign proclaiming the beauty of Tom Hanks.
Or something like that.....
Actually, Tom was in Paris. Damn it.
Oh well, there WAS all that pretty yarn.

Thanks again Staci for all the fun - next time: You're coming too.

Hello 2008

Happy New Year everyone. I have started several times to write a big long post about the last year and the many many MANY changes we have.. uh.. survived?....and I just can't do it. It ends up either too sappy or too angry and I can't really find a middle ground. If we had planned this last year a little better we would not have done so damn many things at once but, when opportunity knocks and you open the door, sometimes there are two or three opportunities standing on your porch having an argument about who gets to go in first. In our case I guess you could say we just had a big old party and let everyone in at once!

So, for those of you just tuning into the program, in the last year we have:
sold a business, started two new businesses, moved out of our house in Houston, moved into our house in Austin, pissed off our daughter (who was living in the house in Austin) moved three cats from Houston to Austin - one by one, and moved pissed off daughter into her own apartment (that just happened on New Year's Eve so I'm just now admitting: Yes - the brat won.) We also have a little bitty wedding in a few weeks.

One of the more fun and exciting things has been getting Staci involved in the store and getting classes going. Vicki Howell has also talked to me about teaching some kids classes and is currently working on a few ideas that we can use for classes and that should be pretty cool. I have heard from Franklin Habit that he is considering bringing his 1000 Knitters Project here to the store -I think it's time we sent more emails to Franklin telling him we have all gotten out our shorts and flip flops again and winter has all but disappeared - in fact, I was downtown this morning running a little errand on the 40 Acres wearing a sleeveless shirt and sandals and someone was obviously coming back to campus from a much colder climate wearing a parka and carrying several suitcases. It was kind of funny to see us standing there at the corner together waiting on the light to change in such different clothing. Anyway, remind Franklin about that wonderful BBQ out at The Salt Lick. Mmmmm, and how about a cold Shiner?

Mr. Wonderful and I are going to TNNA in Long Beach on Thursday and Staci will be in charge of the store for the entire weekend so come by and see what's happening. She may have something up her sleeve. Before we come back we are going to drive down to Malibu to look for the Rita's husband. Cross your fingers.
