Go Vote For Tommy Jr!

DSCN4845.JPG

In an effort to promote world peace by giving almost every Oscar this year to an actor/actress from a foreign country, Tom Hanks did not make a run for his third Oscar this year. And while we lucky viewers were given the opportunity to watch him read TWO categories (I don't think anyone ELSE got to read two...this was obviously a nod to the greatest actor of all time...am I right?) we did not get the chance to hear what would have obviously been the greatest acceptance speech of the evening (Although Jon Stewart rocks for bringing back Marketa Irglova of Original Song to finish her speech. THAT was awesome.)

So, today you have been given the rare opportunity to go VOTE for The Knitting Nest's tribute to Tom Hanks at Mason-Dixon Knitting.com's version of Teeny Project Runway. The winner will be given the chance to appear in their new book and I think Tom deserves a little more publicity - don't you?
Go here to see the pictures.
Go here to Vote.

By the way, I believe they saved the Best for Last (He is #62)

For those of you who just can't get enough of Tommy Jr., there are more pictures on my Flickr site.

The Trunk Show is Moving on, Folks

trunk show.JPG
This weekend is your last chance to get a good look at the felted purses that are crossing the country - they will be going east to Pennsylvania next week so this weekend the KnitKits Patterns and the Lamb's Pride worsted weight yarn will be on sale.

We have also scheduled a second Ravelry Meet and Greet Sale for Sunday March 16th - Watch for the newsletter (and here) for more details.

Let's see.....anything else going on this weekend.....oh yeah, just that little party in LA on Sunday Night - I think they're going to re-name them The Tommy's.

Awwwwww....

diva.jpg
What a cutie.
This is Diva - We had a little talk and I asked her to give a message to her friend Bella - she's the one carrying the 4 puppies (which, by the way are due in 2 weeks!!!!! - not 6!) (What was the message? Dibs on a boy!!!)
Right after our talk she licked David in the face. Extra points!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy VDAY.JPG

Sale tomorrow at the store!
Come in and see the Lamb's Pride Trunk Show - All Lamb's Pride yarn and KnitKit Patterns are on sale 10%.

Cross your fingers for me tomorrow afternoon - we meet the Vet/Breeder to get the okay for one of their precious puppies-to-be. Maybe by tomorrow they will have done another ultrasound and will know if there are any little boys. I don't think she will be travelling from Katy to San Marcos but if they have her with them I might get to meet Hank's mother! Wouldn't that be awesome? I will take my camera just in case.

FYI - We are in the planning stages of another Ravelry meetup in March - I am thinking about Sunday, March 16th. Anyone have any ideas?

And you guys already know just how wonderful Mr. Wonderful is so I won't go bragging about the TWO dozen roses I got yesterday. He goes to the Dr. on Monday to find out how his broken hand and foot are doing - hopefully they will not put a cast on either one. Which reminds me - I am changing my hours on Monday and from now on I will not be opening until 1 pm. I need a little more time to get things done since Monday mornings are my only day off!!

February 07, 2008

Boy, oh Boy - what a day.

Yesterday started out so well and went so bad, so fast.

We went back to Baytown to get the last load of furniture moved into the kids' new apartment and bring back all the rest. We left a little before 6 am and got to see a beautiful sunrise as we turned from 71 onto I-10. I had three things to accomplish: and then I was going to go ahead to Katy and see my parents for a little bit (okay, okay, I WAS planning to sneak in a stop at Yarntopia - so shoot me.) 1. Clean out the refrigerator and clean the kitchen one last time. 2. Clean all three bathrooms. (No big deal, no one has been using them) 3. Go over all of the tile in the house with a wet mop.
Desiree and I cleaned out the fridge in 10 minutes and she and Matt left with a cooler of cold food for their apartment. The movers got there right at 11 am just like they were supposed to and David hopped up in the back of the U-Haul truck to show them something and then he started to get back out of it - and fell.

I don't know exactly WHAT happened even though I did see the whole thing. Somehow his feet ended up at the same level as his head and then he fell about 3 feet to the ground. His feet hit the ground first and then his hands and then his head - which immediately started gushing blood all over the driveway - just like in a movie. He put off going to the emergency room until the U-Haul was completely packed and on it's way over to the apartment - we had the movers for a total of 2 hours - after that it was $11 per MINUTE!!!! He was supervising from the living room furniture that our buyer wanted to keep - thank godness.

Once the movers left and the carpet cleaning company arrived, we left for the emergency room. I don't know if it was the blood running down his face or the fact that all 5 of his toes were already black....but they got us right in to see a doctor. While filling out the paperwork I had filled in the part where they want to know what brings you to the lovely Baytown ER on this fine day as "Fell from moving truck." It WAS a moving truck. It just wasn't moving at the time. That turned out to be quite confusing. The Dr. walked in and asked him why he wasn't wearing a seatbelt - we just looked at each other and laughed.

As it turns out, he has a broken hand and a broken foot and got out of the ER without having to have a permanent cast on either one. They did not stitch up his forehead because the cut was too wide. This morning it was pretty swollen and he can barely see out of his eye. The Dr. told him he could drive home as long as he wasn't dizzy or anything, so of course he did. We left Baytown at 6:26 and pulled into the driveway at 10:30 - not our normal two and a half hour zoom-zoom home.

Home? What am I saying? This is home now.
We were standing on the driveway getting ready to leave and talking with Matt about all the wonderful times we had in the house. He started laughing and said "Yeah, like the time Amanda hit me with a book so hard it knocked me out? And the time I went into her room and tore one of the posters on her wall and she tore down every single poster in my room? Or the time me and two other guys from the neighborhood went into one of the houses they were building on the new street behind us and threw eggs all over the house and the building superintendent went to every parent in the neighborhood and told them how bad their kids were? (There were 9 houses at the time) Or, hey Mom, what about the time the cat from the street bit you on the leg and you spent 5 days in the hospital because of it? Or the time Miko (the Malamute) and Sadie (the Golden Retreiver) across the street killed one of our cats and we found her tail 4 houses down.

Funny. They don't remember the three graduation parties we had there. Or the hours we spent teaching all three of them to drive on the newly poured streets. Or the pumpkins we grew the first spring on the four lots behind our house that were still empty. Or the very first homeowner's meeting we held when everyone out there still fit into one house and we all sat around and drank margaritas and watched our kids sit on the curb sulking about school starting soon. Or the day we moved in and the little girl across the street came over and introduced herself to us by saying "Hello, my name is Margaret. My dad sleeps in his underwear." (I take that back - we still laugh about that.)

Or the day their dad fell out of a U-Haul truck and almost killed himself.

Goodbye, Baytown.
I guess this is really home now.

Cross Your Fingers!

538008~West-Highland-Terrier-Posters.jpg
Most of you who have been reading my blog for a while know that we have been planning to get a West Highland Terrier puppy for the store and I have been waiting for just the right time to get in touch with the breeder and say Let's Go.
Yesterday I called her and said it.
And they just happen to have a litter on the way. They have done their first ultrasound and know there are four puppies - we just have to keep our fingers crossed that there's a good, strong, healthy boy in there. The puppies will be born in April and we will get him sometime in June or July. July 7th or 8th are both good days. One of those days is MY birthday. One of those days is someone else's birthday.

Now. About the cat.
Anyone out there know someone who is lonely and needs some company?
I will be happy to introduce them to a young single male who has been declawed and neutered. He is also very talented - he can fetch. Seriously. He is so bored - he needs some company badly.

That last 35 seconds really sucked.

I'm blaming it on Coach Belichick bucking superstition and leaving his trademark hoodie in the locker room.
He normally looks like this:
g_003_bellichick_195.jpg

Sunday night he shows up in this awful looking thing:
belichick-bill-ap-800201.jpg

I will assume partial blame as well - my beloved and holy - no, holey - World Champion New England Patriots t-shirt that has served me so well (especially in Texas Stadium this fall) became covered in Corn Chowder just before I left for the store. I knew I should have made NEW ENGLAND clam chowder - it's white - I would have just kept the shirt on!!

Oh well, it was a hell of a season. Still a perfect season if you ask me.

Newlyweds, New Yarn and New England

first dance.jpg
For all of you who have not seen this picture of the newlyweds – here they are dancing at the reception. It’s not a great picture since it was taken with my phone but it’s all we have for the moment. I can assure you that when the photographer gets pictures up on the website, you will be seeing many more.
Many, many more. The wedding was lovely and we all had a wonderful time – especially Matt and Desiree.
After the weekend off it was time to get back to work and BOY, I’ve been busy!!
First thing this week was the shipment of Lamb’s Pride which meant: More Ikea Shelves!!! (I swear someday they’re going to put us in a commercial.)
lambspride.JPG
Also in this week was a new item at TNNA called Stix Fix – it is a kit to sharpen up and repair your wooden needles. It has very fine gauge sandpaper, beeswax to fill in any rough spots (or in my house they are called cat tasted areas) and a buffing cloth to polish them and make your needles all shiny and new.
We also received the shipment of NY Cotton yarn – it’s 100% mercerized cotton in 12 different colors for all of you who have been asking about cotton yarn to knit or crochet dishcloths and dishtowels. I think Staci already mentioned the new Malabrigo on her blog and in the newsletter and we have a shipment of Hill Country Yarns on the way which includes a double order of UT sock yarn.

Speaking of UT, let’s talk football for a moment, shall we?
Specifically: SUPER BOWL FOOTBALL.

This Sunday will be the Superbowl (Featuring the New England Patriots and some other team) and we are going to stay open for the game and have a SOUPER-BOWL party. Everyone who would like to come and watch the game is welcome to come on down to the store. You can even bring some soup or some bread to share and bring your knitting to watch the game (and the commercials!) The store will provide the drinks and I’m sure we’ll try to polish off some more of the wine in the kitchen!

GO PATRIOTS!
