I used to knit so much more and I thought it was because I'm so busy at work, surrounded by yarn and knitting that by the time I got home I was too tired to knit - nope - that's not it. It was all that driving back and forth from Houston to Austin that gave me so much knitting time! I have to make time during the day to knit - unless I'm working on something so much fun that I can't put it down...
Like this little baby:

I was calling it the Oatmeal Hoodie until I put the hood on it, then I started thinking of it as Obiwan's Hoodie.
For now, will be known as Aleah's Baby's Sweater.
It will get a real name - and a real model! - in November.
1. A big THANK YOU to Mr. Wonderful for working the store for me for THREE DAYS while I was sick. Ooo-Boy, was I sick. They diagnosed everything from Strep Throat to Mono. Thank goodness I got better after trying to see the Dr. for a third time - imagine - both Doctors in the office were out sick!!!
2. Thursdays. Hmmmm. Staying open has not been working out because no one has been coming and I'm spending time up there (and using electricity for lights and AC, etc.) when I could be at home with Mr. Wonderful. So. We're going to try it once more and this Thursday night will be GAME NIGHT! We will have some games at the store and we can knit and play games - or bring someone who likes to play games and YOU can knit and play and they can just play! If this doesn't work I'm not hanging around for three extra hours in an empty store.
3. It's almost May. May is Franklin Habit Month at The Knitting Nest.
I am going to start taking names for volunteers who would like to help over the two days. Franklin will be in Austin on Friday afternoon and he may have a few things he would like to do. If you would like to help - please email me.
I am also going to start collecting Texas themed things in a GREAT BIG BASKET that will be waiting for him in his hotel room. If you would like to give Franklin a gift or a card he will be much more relaxed and able to enjoy the whole basket of goodies on Friday night instead of Saturday. Bring it on by the store before hand and put it into the basket - let's make it really cool, shall we?
Has anyone seen Franklin's blog for the weekend?
Yeah, hot picture. He's gorgeous.
Not what I'm talking about.
131 photos?
Come on people - we can do better than that!!!!!!!

Fresh flowers are always better cut from your own yard!!
Happy Bobmas Day all you ..uh...Ravelryers....Ravelers.....just exactly what are we called, anyway? There is a new group called Ravelraisers that are all donating $10 - I think everyone should go there today and donate "Ten Stinkin' Bucks" as they are saying and help celebrate Bobmas Day.
Look how far they have come in one year!
Just think - Where would we be without Ravelry? I know I try to look each day at the new groups being formed and sometimes it's the best form of entertainment. There are the normal collegiate groups, the pet groups, the yarn brand groups, the Clapo-What? groups, and thank goodness for the Yarn Shop Owners Group - we bounce ideas off of each other and talk about what's working and what's not working. Then there are the REALLY ENTERTAINING GROUPS: Knitters Addicted to Porn. Knitters Who Write Porn. Knitters who are Former Porn Stars. But my favorite so far (and the one that actually made me say WTF???? outloud) The Submissive Wives group. No, really. I did not make that up.
What's your favorite Ravelry group?
And, no, I have not started an I Love Tom Hanks Group.
But I think I will today.
Part 1 - We will not be open late tonight - Thursday the 10th - we have to go help set up an art gallery for college girl's opening on Friday night. (You didn't think all those works of art just jump up on the wall and hang there by themselves, did you?) Sorry - I promise we will do something special next week.

Part 2 - We will be having a Sale for our 7 Month Anniversary on Saturday - Come in and roll the dice and you can save up to 30%!

One of these puppies is Hank. Well.....he will be Hank just as soon as the owner of the kennel decides which one is more perfect. Evidently that's usually a very simple thing to do but in this case she is having trouble because they are both beautiful - her words. Of course, I am not arguing...but it will evidently slow things down - which means it may be the middle of June before he is actually mine. So, one of these boys will be a show dog and one of them will be a yarn shop dog. So far, they're identical twins.

I got in 20 new project bags today - they are all reversible, like this one. You can see the entire collection on my Flickr Page.
Today is the first Thursday that we will be open late - I plan to continue it all summer long and once a month we will have a movie night - tonight there just happens to be a very nice movie on ABC Family from 6:30 to 9 pm that I can assure you will be playing on the TV. Come down and knit and have some popcorn!
Next up: Saturday the 12th will be our 7 Month anniversary - We will be having a Lucky 7 Sale - when customers are ready to check out they will be given a pair of dice to roll - the total will determine your discount.
Next up: Summer Sweater Support System!!!
Have you ever wanted to knit a sweater but can't quite get the nerve up to do it? Maybe you've made a ton of baby sweaters, like me, but have never made a sweater for yourself, and you want to! Maybe you want to start out small, with a baby sweater, a dog sweater or a Barbie Sweater! Maybe you want to make a sweater with a bunch of people, just for the company and the support if you get stuck.
Interested?
Now's Your Chance.
This summer The Knitting Nest will be having a "Sweater Along"
We are going to have a Project Notebook hanging in the store for everyone to keep their own Sweater Journal and document their progress and inspire other knitters to join along!
Let me know if you are interested in joining - I will be adding a thread on Ravelry in The Knitting Nest's group for people to sign in with their ideas and questions. April will be for organizing - we will begin on Thursday, May 1st.
