Go Vote.

i voted
Today is your last chance to vote early - most places are open until 9 pm - and if you think the lines are long right now - wait until Tuesday!
They would not let Hank vote - I guess he's not old enough - so I let him wear my sticker. He is still quite concerned about those waffling electoral votes!!
I say, go out and vote and then have a nice dinner and pat yourself on the back - and stay out long enough to miss the waves of trick-or-treaters.

Thanks everyone!

Thank you to everyone for the nice comments, emails and phone calls about the Best of Austin and my hand. The stitches came out on Friday and the splint will be around for a good 4 more weeks. I tried to knit this morning and it just won't be happening. My thumb may be numb for another month or so - but it IS MOVING when I tell it to - which is a very good sign.

If anyone missed Franklin's latest mention of the store, go here and read all about Dolores' Campaign Tour. Stephanie took the photo and it was picked one of the Best 30 out of..oh..I don't know... probably hundreds. (Franklin told me he has had more comments about this one picture than the rest of them!)
Dolores Van Hoofen Campaigns in Austin
After the formal pictures, Dolores wandered to the other side of the store to be photographed by Franklin's Panopticon colorway and browse through the new stack of Franklin's books. (Come get your copy now!)

And after a very long week..... (what? it's only Wednesday? well crap.) anyway..a mother's dream came true yesterday. Amanda has helped out at the store a lot since graduation but since I cut my hand she has been here every day. She's been more help than she'll ever know but yesterday she did something really cool - She got her Ravelry invite!!!

I'm so proud. (sniff)

32 stitches later and a hand that looks like Dr Frankenstein sewed it up - i guess i'm ready for Halloween. I took a picture but i'm not going to gross everyone out on the world wide web. i have so much to do before the yarn crawl but mainly i have to try to stay awake.

Robo Arm

robo arm
new splint from the hand center of austin.
this is turning out to be a much bigger deal than the e.r. doctor led me to believe. it's no longer a simple, in the office procedure. we have moved across to the hospital with general anesthesia. he thinks i severed both tendons. we'll see tomorrow at 10 am.

Dreaming......

October. Ahhhh.
The weather here in Austin is finally just like I remember it from last fall when we were just getting the store off the ground. Nice chilly mornings and beautiful cool evenings. It actually feels like fall.

The bags for the yarn crawl came in and the passports are supposed to be ready by next Monday - we're cutting it close but I have no idea if anyone pre-purchased these last year or just waited until the first day.
I spent all day last Thursday winding Cascade Eco into small balls of yarn for our kits. This was a two step process that involved the yarn swift, the yarn meter and the ball winder all at once. Not a big deal but boring as all hell. 40 feet. snip. 40 feet. snip. 40 feet. snip. zzzzzzzzz
That night we stayed up late to watch USC get their ASS kicked by an UNRANKED TEAM - ha ha ha ha ha - and later that night I had a strange dream:
I was standing on the sidelines of the USC-Oregon football game and they were trying to decide if Oregon had gotten a first down. One of the referees pulls out the little orange arrows they place on the field where the ball stopped on the last play and turns around and looks at me and blows his whistle and motions for me to come out on the field. I run out and pull a wad of black yarn out of my pocket and attach it to the arrow and then mysteriously the yarn meter appears and I begin to walk off ten yards with the yarn meter and the black yarn.
I woke up and kind of giggled at how silly the dream was.

The next day I got in a shipment of the new Amy Singer yarn from Lorna's Laces. I placed it on the shelf next to Franklin's yarn and made a little sign for it using the KNITTY logo.
That night I dreamed that Franklin Habit and Amy Singer were having a fight over whose yarn was going to sell better - using Rock'em Sock'em Robots.

Since the bags for the yarn crawl came in I have been counting them and dividing them up for each store according to how many they ordered and then I made up a receipt for each store to use for the expenses.
Last night I dreamed that Jesse, our UPS man, brought in all 5 boxes of bags and stacked them on top of each other so I just opened the first box. Then every single one of the store owners showed up for their bags at the same time so we started counting them out - and they were ALL DIFFERENT.
This is a normal brain:

This is obviously the brain of a yarn shop owner:
